Our Governance Practice Group brings the latest
in governance thinking and best practices to develop tailor-made solutions
to maximize the effectiveness of your organization's governance. We understand
very well, from working with clients and through our own experience as
board members of crown agencies, hospitals and non-profit organizations,
the dynamic and challenging environment in which boards operate. With
our proven methods, planning processes, personal experience and the best
facilitation available, we help clients in the public, private and not-for-profit
sectors address their toughest governance challenges.
Improving Board Effectiveness and
Accountability
The board is the locus of accountability in an
organization and, as such, is ultimately responsible for the organizations
success. In fulfilling this responsibility, the board sets strategic direction,
provides effective oversight, monitors performance of the organization
and CEO, and ensures effective risk management is in place.
Our work in improving board effectiveness and accountability with clients
in the private and non-profit sectors helps improve the relationship between
the board and senior management, clarify roles and accountability, and
ultimately improve their ability to provide sound leadership towards achieving
their organizations vision. We work directly with the Board and
senior management to develop practical solutions based on best practices
including:
- Redesigning governance structures, processes
and practices
- Improving board meeting effectiveness
- Board and director evaluation processes
- Defining board, director and management roles
and responsibilities
- Improving risk management and accountability
- Facilitating board retreats and planning sessions
Along with our Aboriginal Practice Group, we have
special expertise in the public sector, working with national, provincial
and Aboriginal governments on a range of governance- and accountability-related
projects.
