Improving Board Effectiveness and Accountability
The board is the locus of accountability in an organization and, as such, is ultimately responsible for the organization’s success. In fulfilling this responsibility, the board sets strategic direction, provides effective oversight, monitors performance of the organization and CEO, and ensures effective risk management is in place.

Our work in improving board effectiveness and accountability with clients in the private and non-profit sectors helps improve the relationship between the board and senior management, clarify roles and accountability, and ultimately improve their ability to provide sound leadership towards achieving their organization’s vision. We work directly with the Board and senior management to develop practical solutions based on best practices including:

  • Redesigning governance structures, processes and practices
  • Improving board meeting effectiveness
  • Board and director evaluation processes
  • Defining board, director and management roles and responsibilities
  • Improving risk management and accountability
  • Facilitating board retreats and planning sessions

Along with our Aboriginal Practice Group, we have special expertise in the public sector, working with national, provincial and Aboriginal governments on a range of governance- and accountability-related projects.
